Jersey-born and bred Tess Colback is one of our Senior Recruitment Partners who joined Rowlands in 2021. Tess has an impressive track record in the HR industry, but here are a few more unusual facts you may not know about her!

Do you have a favourite part of the island?

There are so many places in Jersey that have special meaning to me, but I just love Rozel Bay. I can be found there most weekends shivering after a cold dip in the sea and rewarding myself with a bacon roll from the Hungry Man! Sea air, laughter and great hospitality make for a beautiful Jersey life - man bieau p’tit Jèrri!

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

Sea swimming, city breaks, and seeing almost anything live; music, theatre, exhibitions or talks. I lived in London while I was at university, so it’s a place I like to visit regularly pandemics allowing. I also sing in an ensemble group with some professional local ladies. Most of all, though, I enjoy spending time with friends and family; for me, it's about who I spend my time with, not necessarily what I'm doing. That's why I'm lucky to have such lovely colleagues at Rowlands!

Do you have any pets?

We have a family tortoise called Esther, who is collectively thought of as my mother's favourite child.

Tell us about your favourite food!

My youngest brother is an incredibly talented chef, and he makes the most amazing antipasti boards with homemade focaccia – so delicious! I also don’t think you can beat a BBQ on the beach. I am a firm believer that everything tastes better outside.

What music do you enjoy?

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music! I love jazz (Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Etta James are the way to my heart), folk music (Laura Marling got me through my degree), 00's pop, 70's jams, 60's rock and roll plus a little bit of opera – I love a diva in any genre! My family throw some excellent parties, and they often end with partygoers of all ages shaking it out to some Rolling Stones.

Do you have a favourite film or TV show?

I love any Wes Anderson film, I am partial to period drama, but my most-watched film is definitely 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'! The series Schitt’s Creek also saw me through the pandemic.

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you!

I once sent in an audition tape to Stars in Your Eyes Kids. It was a VERY long time ago, and I dressed up as Kate Bush in her Wuthering Heights music video – red tights and all!

What are you most looking forward to in 2022?

As the world opens up again, I cannot wait to catch up on celebrations, gigs, and travel. I am particularly looking forward to seeing Lady Gaga, ABBA and Coldplay, as well as venturing to the South of France and Vancouver for some long-overdue wedding celebrations.
