    What do the main areas mean and what qualifications can you take?

    Accountancy

    Accountancy involves giving professional advice to organisations on a wide range of business and finance issues. Chartered accountants take on the role of business advisers, working in areas such as financial reporting, taxation, auditing, forensic accounting, corporate finance and insolvency. Most Accountancy firms will look at graduates to join their training courses. They will often require good A-Level grades and a degree.

    Three key professional qualifications:

    They take from 3 – 5 years to complete but the good news is that each are globally-recognised, and are normally undertaken in conjunction with your graduate job.

    Banking

    Careers in banking can be wide ranging, it can include positions within Retail Banks through to Private Banks dealing with High Net Wroth and Corporate clients.

    Banking roles can include but are not limited to Administration (payments, foreign exchange), Customer Call centre, Relationship Management, Investments and Loan Officers

    Three main Banking qualifications:

    Funds

    Fund Administration is a growing area in Jersey, with excellent training opportunities. A lot of the skills required for Funds are similar to those required for Trusts. Funds roles are quite administration based, and good numeracy is useful. Fund Administrators are responsible for looking after a portfolio of clients, managing their investments in different types of funds (i.e. Hedge Funds, Private Equity Funds and Real Estate Funds).

    Qualifications include:

    IT

    There are a number of training opportunities within the IT industry. Roles can vary from an IT department of a finance business to technical and systems support within an IT Technical Services company. Employers often looking at IT related degrees, however are open to all backgrounds and offer training in all areas of IT.

    Qualifications will include training on industry specific software and programmes as well as specific qualifications including:

    Legal

    Law offers many training opportunities, either for students who have completed an LLB law degree or another degree accompanied by a law conversion course. You can enter at a Legal Assistant level and continue with your legal training. There are also chances for more junior candidates looking to begin a career in Law. Law is a fast and dynamic area to work in, spanning many areas, such as litigation, corporate, commercial, conveyancing, funds and personal.

    Trust

    This involves the process of putting assets into safe keeping that will be managed by a third party. People who often put their assets into Trusts may include members of the Royal family, sports stars or models. A Trust Administrator would be responsible for managing their own portfolio of clients, looking after the client’s assets on their behalf.
